- Icebergs as big as mountains note the red suits
- Sarah Tucker – Gorgeous Escapes
- Thousands of penguins who resembled Charlie Chaplin
This week, our new travel correspondent Sarah Tucker brings you Gorgeous Escapes. She tells us about her 8 day expedition to Antarctica with her son and 90 other people ranging in age from 7 to the late 70’s. Sarah was overwhelmed by the sight of thousands of penguins with the backdrop of purple icebergs the size of mountains. Sarah saw giant whales and seals eating penguins. The white light reflected off the ice and was so bright it was like a cold heaven and drove away any thought of seasonal blues. She traveled via Buenos Aires which she describes as a very sexy city with culture and site seeing – it is also warm after freezing Antarctica. Sarah then spent New Year’s on Malta, a tiny island in the Meditaranean. She discovered ancient sites, the stunning capital Valletta and divine golden honey and white olives.
Sarah is no stranger to travel on the radio she has presented a travel slot on Classic Fm and Jazz FM. She is single mother who lives in South West London with her son and menagerie of pets.
Sarah and Tom Tucker went care of www.roundtheworldexperts.com = on their eight-day. Christmas expedition in Antarctica tour from 20th to 28th December. All ground arrangements organised by Aliwen www.aliwenincoming.com who organise excellent accommodation and city tours en route to Patagonia and the cruise. It is strongly recommended to spend a few days in Buenos Aires before flying onto Ushuaia as the city is excellent for teenagers. There is an excellent English speaking tour guide Elizabeth Georges (elizabethgeorges@hotmail.com) who adapts tours for families and children of all ages as well as couples. We stayed at Los Cauquenes resort and spa www.loscauquenes.com in Ushuaia which has the best views of the coastline. In Buenos Aires the extremely stylish La Faena Hotel, designed by Philip Starke www.faena.com. And the centrally located and very friendly Hotel Alvear Art www.alvearart.com.
Sarah’s Tip: Don’t forget to try the king crab in Patagonia and steak and dulce de deche ice cream in Buenos Aires.
