Petina Gappah is a Zimbabwean writer with law degrees from Cambridge, Graz University and the University of Zimbabwe. Her debut story collection, An Elegy for Easterly, won the Guardian First Book Prize in 2009. The Book of Memory is the story of Memory, an albino Zimbabwean woman on death row for the murder of her adopted father. Memory recounts the story of her life in an attempt to escape her fate but can we ever escape fate and is what we remember the truth?
